Origins of Ankhara

The Creation and the War of the Elementals

Before the world existed, there was the One Being. From Himself He brought forth four children: Pyra of Fire, Mara of Water, Aera of Air, and Gaia of Earth.

Together the Four shaped Ankhara. Gaia raised the land and mountains. Mara filled the rivers and seas. Aera spread wind and sky across the new world. Pyra brought heat and flame. The Gods then created Demigods to serve beside them, and humanity followed.

As mortal civilization grew, so did fear of Fire. Pyra's power was destructive as well as necessary, and mankind increasingly turned away from him. Rejection became resentment. Resentment became wrath. In time, the conflict grew into the War of the Elementals.

Gaia, Mara, and Aera united against Pyra. The war devastated Ankhara. Demigods died in vast numbers, and the divine essence released by their deaths spread across the world. That essence would remain long after the war and become the source from which mortal magic was later shaped.

To end the conflict, the three allied Gods created the legendary Godkiller and used it against Fire. Pyra was defeated, and the age of direct rule by the Gods came to an end.

The Four withdrew from the world. Humanity remained behind with ruined lands, fragments of divine power, competing memories of the war, and the beginning of the histories that would eventually become the Five Kingdoms.
